Hyderabad: City-based Nutrition Nxt, a pet food manufacturer, announced its plan to set up a manufacturing facility at Wargal, Telangana by FY26 with an initial investment outlay of Rs 90 crore. The production capacity of the first phase of the unit which will be set up on 430 acres will be 40,000 tonnes per annum. The 2nd phase of the unit, currently in the planning stage, will add another 40,000 tonnes capacity.

Praharsha Cherukury, Founder & CEO, Nutrition Nxt, said: “We have acquired 430 acres of land through TSIIC. The manufacturing facility will be set up at Wargal by FY26. We will commence production by 2027 or early 2028. We have currently partnered with a manufacturer in Thailand to import pet food, which will be initially sold in Hyderabad under the brand name Parent.”

He further said that the first phase will be set up with $10 million (Rs 90 crore), while the second phase of the unit is in its planning stage.

In two weeks, Parent pet food will be introduced in the market through e-commerce platforms - Amazon and Flipkart, besides retail presence in city. Gradually, over the next two months, the pet food brand will be available across major retail chain outlets and veterinary clinics in Telangana.

The company will expand its presence in South India by entering Chennai followed by Bangalore, in three - six months, Cherukury added.

Speaking on the pet food industry, Dr Venkata Dharmendra Boppana, Co-founder & Chief Mentor of the company, said: “A report released in 2023 estimates that India has 20 million dogs, and the pet food industry size is about Rs10,000 crore, growing at CAGR

of 15 per cent.

By estimating the growth rate we can say that in 2025 the pet food industry size is about Rs13,000 crore. The global pet food industry size is $170 – 200 billion.”

Dr Boppana informed that within three months the Parent line of cat nutrition will be launched, while in nine months a specialty line of product addressing disease conditions of dogs will

be introduced.
